Hello everyone! I promised a checklist of what to pack for a vacation from my earlier blog Traveling with a baby - on standby. This is what I packed to take on my 7 day trip to South Carolina last October. We stayed with family so you may need to adjust your checklist as needed but we were able to wash clothes and stay in a guest suite my husbands brother had ready for us in his house. Being a Nursing mother of a four month old baby Luke. I did quite a few searches myself of what to pack and what I would need to bring with me and what I could leave home. Travelling with a new baby is kind of scary so I hope this helps calm your nerves a bit. Because I traveled standby I only had one small carry on suitcase and the diaper bag which is a backpack. I also was able to bring my travel system stroller car seat combo with me to use while in the airport and in the car (I was not about to rent a car seat for my baby.. who knows the amount of germs on those things, and we were not renting a car so we needed one to go in the car when his brother picked us up). What I packed in the Suitcase:
Sun hat
my Swim Suit
Bras (2 different colors, black, white, Strapless & a sleeping bra) -Nursing mommy.. you never know what could happen to your bra! bring spares
3-4 pair of underwear (I did laundry in the middle of my trip)
2-3 pair of socks - summertime, wore mostly flip flops.
Tennis Shoes
Sandals or Flip Flops
Milk Cooler Bag with 3 similac ice packs and some breast milk (Check your airline requirements for moms, I know delta lets u bring milk, formula, baby food, medication without it counting toward liquid limits)
Sun Dresses 2-3
Capri's 1 pair
Shirts 2-3
lightweight Jacket - I took my windbreaker that folds up very small
Pajamas - I took 1 pair, after reading his bad it is to wear the same pajamas a few days in a row I would maybe bring a few pairs next time.
Makeup - I got away with just minimal makeup (mascara, eyeliner, eyshadow pallet, mineral powder foundation)
Face Wash & face lotion
My brother in law has shampoo and conditioner for us, otherwise u may want to pack some.
Sunscreen
Baby clothes 8 outfits (4 jammies 4 shirt/pant combo) - babies need changed often when they are so small, from spit up to poop I was always changing my son.
Jacket for baby
baby socks 4-5
baby shoes or sandals if they wear them
baby beanie - 1 extra (the airplane gets cold)
baby swimsuit
Sun Hat for Luke- South Carolina was still pretty warm and sunny!
Extra baby bottle - I put 1 small one because my baby hardly uses bottles, but if your baby is bottle fed you may want at least 2 or 3.
Extra baby blankets 1-2
Extra diapers if you have room, or just buy a small pack when you get to your destination. With limited space I just packed enough for a couple days in case I got stuck at the airport, and bought some when I got to SC.
What I packed in the Diaper bag - Backpack
Breast pump - it was a hand pump just in case I needed it, like I said my nursing was full on breastfed didn't usually take a bottles unless we were in the car so that's why I brought it for those long car rides to the beach etc.
Disinfecting wipes, the airplane tray table is probably not cleaned.. EVER! So make sure to wipe up the area you or your baby will be in.. especially the tray table.
Breast pump cleansing wipes
Diapers - like I said, I packed two daysworth and bought a small pack when I arrived in S.C.
Wipes - again I took one pack and if I ran out I would have bought more but one pack was just fine for the week.
Extra outfit for Luke and me in case I had to check my other bag, and we didn't get on the next flight (the joys of standby)
Burp cloths and bibs if u do those 2-3 - I had a very spity-upy baby (acid reflux) and the bibs fought the drool.
Ipad
Iphone
Chargers
Wallet - ID or passport and babies birth certificate or passport/ID.
Nursing cover
Baby Bjorn carrier - mostly i used this but i had room for it in the bag just in case. Last time I travelled my son was bigger and I used a woven wrap, buckle carriers are easier for quick on and off because they don't let u keep baby in the carrier while taking off and landing.. I just left it on my body but I clipped him or if it was the woven wrap I can leave it tied around me and slide him in and out so I didn't have to re-tie it.
medicine/ creams for baby
nursing pads (14) a set for each day (maybe a spare set just in case)
baby blanket 1 light weight 1 heavier
baby beanie
spare pacifier
baby bottle
Breastmilk - my bag had an extra pocket with insulation I stuck one 4 oz. bag in there for a bottle with 2 of the ice packs listed above. I brought the soft bottle cooler in my suitcase in case I pumped I could bring it home with me. My son didn't even use this baggie on the plane, I just used it when we went out to use it up.
Travel size lotion
travel size soap
washcloth
snack bag with goodies- nursing mom here needed to eat often!
changing pad
sunglasses (I limited myself to 2 I lost them on a few trips so i bring a spare but I love sunglasses and have so many It was hard not to bring one for each outfit).
water bottle - empty until get past security then you can fill it up in the drinking fountain so you don't pay outrageous prices for a bottle of water.
Stroller & Car seat covers - Travel bags you can buy on amazon so when they put them under the plane u can have them protected from getting damaged or dirty.
Baby toys if your baby likes them.
and there you have it ladies! Hopefully I did not leave anything out! Please Comment below any items you would add to your checklist. XoXo - Cassandra
