Hello fellow moms and bloggers! My name is Cassandra Lovin Rasmussen, I work with my best friend and business partner Lynee Ritchie. We will be posting a series of blog posts about mommy things as well as some "How-to" videos for our business and much more. We like to talk about our children, mommy stuff, crafts, travel, and whatever environmental thoughts we have going on. Follow along and join our mailing list to keep up with us! We have a slight introduction of our lives and why we decided to start BCM (BCrunchyMoms) Blog and BCB (BcrunchyBoutique) in-home, and online craft store.
I've wanted to be a mommy my entire life, as a child I was always carting around wagons FULL of stuffed animals. I had my baby dolls that smelled oh so good, not sure how they got them to smell like vanilla, but they smelled just like a real baby. I loved it. I had my baby doll cribs, strollers, high chairs, and all the works! My three siblings and my mom always told me that I would have to drive a bus when I grew up because I was going to have so many kids! Now, 27 years old and married 5, together 7, I had to beg my husband to start a family! In 2014 I finally got him to agree. After a not so ready agreement in the spring that didn't work out, we decided to really try for a baby in the fall! We had no problems and a month later there I was staring at a little white stick with a little pink plus sign on it trying to figure out my emotions. I was so excited but did not know how to let it out since I had waited so long for this moment (since I was a little girl I wanted a baby of my own one day). I decided to put a cute little mustache and a bow on the stick and wrap it in a box for my husband to open when he got home. A beau or a bow. My sister and her husband were coming over for game night, so I had to tell my husband the news right before they got there. We couldn't even share the news because we had to decide how we wanted to announce it to the families. I was so excited and ecstatic! We didn't tell my family for two weeks because I wanted to announce it using our Halloween costumes which were going to be thing one, thing two, and a fake pregnant belly, as thing three! Because we weren't going to see his family on Halloween we decided to go to dinner and tell them about a week before halloween.
I was bad, I called my mom to tell her about the stick before I even told my husband... Being a pilot he was up in the air at the moment and my mom is my best friend so I just had to!! All this was the beginning of my mommy life and man how I didn't have a clue how much I would be learning in those nine months and beyond! -Cassandra
"A 'Crunchy' mom? What's that?", I asked as soon as I heard the word. "Oh you know, people that are overly attached to their babies, never let them cry, carry them all the time, that kind of thing", a person responded, matter-of-factly. This person sounded almost disgusted, as if the term 'Crunchy' had been a widely known and debated term - yet I'd never heard of it, but I wasn't yet a mom, either.Fast forward to 2013 - I found myself pregnant with my first baby, and hit the books and (Dr.) Google to research all the things I "can and can't" do while pregnant and breastfeeding. I have done a great deal of traveling and spending time with other cultures, and the first thing I noticed in my research is that us Americans do things very differently.I'll be honest, breastfeeding was never a question in my mind; I just knew I would breastfeed. I didn't know the struggles that I would face, and I didn't know anything about the struggles that I have now seen other women face. Even before pregnancy, I researched 'extended breastfeeding' to see what it was all about, and had made the decision that my baby would stay a nursling past 1 year of life. Something that is not so uncommon in other countries. For this, someone called me crunchy.Cloth diapers? Who is crazy enough to add all that extra work? I am! I love the idea of cloth diapering, and my mother always told me that if I had the opportunity, to give it a shot (I was a cloth diaper baby). Unfortunately, I'm a full time working mom and I was unable to find a daycare that would support the use of cloth diapers. However, because I wanted to try it, I was called crunchy. Wearing your baby, what does that even mean? Yup, I strap on my wrap and soak up the baby cuddles while I shop. I throw on my Ergo, and hike the Utah mountains. When I absolutely have to get something done around the house, and my little-itty-bitty-mini-me wants to be in mommy's arms, I strap her to my chest or back and let her "help" me do my chores. Overly attached, yeah - I was called crunchy. Baby food... Oh baby food. By the time my sweet baby girl was old enough to start on foods, I made all of her food at home, and followed Baby Led Weaning. For this, I was called crunchy. The list can go on and on..I work full time, I come home to my wonderful husband, my beautiful baby girl, and the projects and dreams that I still work towards. I'm a traveler at heart, born with a wanderlust. I can't keep still, so I craft. I like to create things in my mind, and watch them come to life by my hands. But why does any of this matter? Why am I sharing this? Why do you care? Aside from this blog, I'm a mom. I'm a mom that wants to support other women in their decisions whether they are crunchy or not, and help in anyway I can. I want to share my experiences, even if they reach and help only 1 mom.I hope you enjoy this journey with Cassie and I! -Lynee
Motherhood is why we wanted to start up this blog, like Lynee said, we want to be able to share what we have learned and our struggles in the journey of being a mom as well as be a support team for anyone looking for that. In our name "BCrunchy Boutique" the crunchy stands for our strive to be Eco-friendly and use home remedies as much as possible. We both believe in breastfeeding our babies and doing everything we can to keep them as healthy as possible. A lot of what we do is pretty "crunchy" I guess you could say and so those are the types of things you can expect out of this blog! Crunchy mommy secrets and stories! There is the possibility we will have "celebrity bloggers" who may also give their advice/stories of parenthood. Stay tuned this is just the beginning and we appreciate your patience while we get this all set up!
We have an Etsy store of all our homemade goodies, you can check out anytime and follow up on our fun new projects here on this blog! BCrunchyBoutique.etsy.com
